Give Responsibly This Holiday Season

The holiday season is upon us and if Black Friday wasn’t enough to get all of your shopping done and you still have more to do, the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling has an important message for you.

Lottery tickets may be fun-filled and exciting presents, but they are not suitable gifts for minors.

Lottery products have been shown sometimes to be an initial introduction to gambling activities for youth.  Research shows that when youth are exposed to gambling at a young age, they are more likely to develop a problem later in life. We can decrease the likelihood of future gambling problems by practicing responsible gift giving this holiday season.

The Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling wants to remind you that the legal age for gambling in the state of Florida is 18.  Giving lottery tickets as a gift to minors not only puts them at risk for developing a problem, but it is also against that law.
