A New Year, a New You

A New Year, a New You

December 31, 2015

As 2015 comes to a close, it is the perfect time to sit and reflect. What was your resolution last year? Did you keep it? If not, what road blocks got in the way? 2015 was an action packed year. It was a year that saw the rise of extreme terrorist groups and continued attacks around the world but it also saw its share of triumphs and uplifting stories like Pope Francis’ visit to the U.S. and the U.S. Women’s Soccer team’s victory in the World Cup. On the home-front, our political and social climate seems more charged than ever. In fact, if you were to watch a “Year in Review,” you would undoubtedly seen a fair share of pain and carnage.

There were plenty of stories that made headlines. However, there were many other painful stories that never made a single headline, never crossed a single news-feed. In America alone, millions are negatively impacted by addiction, specifically gambling. According to www.pbs.org, in America, gambling has become a $40 billion dollar a year industry. Las Vegas alone brings in close to 10 billion dollars a year from people gambling at their casinos and placing bets. So Americans are clearly gambling and while many enjoy gambling as simply a recreational activity, many do not.

For many people, gambling addiction wrecks their finances, marriages, jobs, and other personal relationships. If gambling is a problem for you or someone you love, you should know there is help out there. Its highly likely that your community has a great support system for people adversely impacted by a gambling addiction. Various businesses and groups offer services and support. The bottom line is, there is help out there. As bleak as a situation may seem, there is always hope.
